Rector Betty LouiseI have been playing the saw for about 18 years. I play for schools, clubs, in jam sesions, churches--anywhere I am asked. I do not charge, as I like for everyone to hear the music of the saw. I have appeared on Texas Country Reporter t.v. program, and have been written up in several publications. I learned by trial and error, and Jim Leonard's wonderful book," Scratch my Back". I have recently had a complete knee replacement, and I hope I will still be able to play the s
Renes MarcoI've got the Tenor saw from Musshel and.... and I use to play with my friend Matteo(with the Baritone) The Ave Maria of Schubert and El condor pasa. I have a problem with my saw:after few days of use it started to oxidated probably because of the sweat of my hands.
Ricardo Saludos.
Richmond Sheilagh I am not a sawer, however I am looking for saw recordings. Specifically ones that are sparce in instrumentation, lyrical and feature the forlorn quality of the saw. I'm hoping you can help me?
Riet Bertie van derI live in Pretoria, South Africa. The first time that I saw a musical saw, was when a blind man invited me to his house to listen to him playing. This was absolutely fantastic! I then met an eighty year old gentleman who gave me a spare Stradivarius saw that was rusted pitch black and which had never been used since it was bought in the 1930's. I've now become so attached to this instrument that I'me actually neglecting my guitar and mouthorgan. It's a great instrument t

Roberts GeorgeI'm retired, and a hobby musician living in Las Vegas, NV. I've played the saw (M&W) for about three years, but I haven't practiced much lately - just geting back into it. Boy does my left hand hurt! There is an organ club here where I live, and I think I'll work up a tune or two for their next meeting. E' me if you're in the Las Vegas area and interested in the saw!
Robinson DaveHave played M&W tenor for 20 years.....U.S., Dominican Republic, Japan. I live in western Mass. (Whately), and continue to enjoy the instrument. Have taught a few beginners out here, so lemme know if you're interested! Also play blues/country harp & guitar. Is this cutting through??
Rogers Jerry D.I started playing the Saw in 1970 at the age of 16. I sang with a Gosple Singing group in South Texas called "the joyful noisemakers", the group was made up of my sister 3 brothers and myself. Through the 25 years that we sang together I had the chance to play my SAW all overTexas and southern United States. I now live in Kentucky and I still get invited to paly from time to time.
roline Currently living in California. Learned to play the saw from my mother in about 1965. She learned in Peking many years ago at the music school there. I play rarely--the penetrating quality drives my husband crazy.
Rosemary John &Greetings friends! Watch this space! The first New Zealand-designed and manufactured 30" saw has just been produced. The prototype is so good, we can't think of any improvements. We have had it produced by a large saw manufacturing company and are currently preparing a brochure for it; I reckon we will 'knock the socks off' the opposition. A wooden, stained and varnished handle gives a great appearance too. Beautiful, low, mellow tone. So long for now.
Rosemary John &Wanted! Cartoons about saw-players or musicians for inclusion in our news-letter. Credit given, but no pay! Please e-mail if possible. Grateful thanks.
Rosemary John & My playing of the saw is so dreadful, that I am writing a one-man play, in which I mime the sound! Just ordered the book, "Scratch My Back" -hope it helps! There are some wonderful web pages about for which I am grateful. We have had the good fortune to acquire a Charlie Blacklock Special and a Stradivarius, both new, while visiting London. Remember, we welcome any saw players coming to New Zealand.
Russell Stewart C.Semi-skilled player, not quite ready for prime time. Usually accompany folk songs on guitar, if they don't have too many wild pitch changes.
Ryan JohnI have played and instructed the classical guitar and trombone most of my life, and now play guitar and electric bass in Church every week. I am learning the saw in hopes that I can also play it in Church. It is proving to be more challenging than I thought, but daily practice on my Sandvik Strad is providing slow but sure progress. I am going to love playing "In The Garden" on my saw, especially with classical guitar accompaniment that I recorded earlier. I have discove

shilla i like playing the saw is interesting.
Shimonko StanFirst heard the saw played at a camp in '95. Loved the sound and the oddity of it appealed to my nature as a "ham". Favourite is a 26" Vermont American that I abducted from an aquaintance in the middle of his renovations. Have about 6 saws, all came from yard sales or second hand stores. Struggled for 2 years with various saws before "it" finally happened. Had to practice in the back room with the door closed! Advice to those learning: You're learning to sing with a new

Silverstein DavidHi there. I've been playing the saw about 3 months and love it. I play an M&W 28" tenor and am actually beginning to get a nice tone out of it. I got a lot of listening inspiration from R. Crumb's group "The Cheap Suit Serenaders and Joel Eckhaus. I would love to get some advice especially getting rid of the bow squeaking noise. I live in Brewster, NY near Danbury, CT and would love to hook up with anyone else in the area. I'm open to any other saw playing advice tha

Smith JenniferIt is wonderful to see that so many others share the fun of playing the handsaw! I have always used a plain ol' Stanley Handyman 26" and am pleased with the performance, but am also interested in becoming more serious with my playing. I would like to know what others have to say regarding the more tailored, "musical" saws v. the standard hardware store versions. Any input or opinions you have to contribute on the subject would be appreciated!

I long to meet another saw player, especially one of many years of experience with lots of subtle tricks up their sleeve. Can anyone enlighten me on the uncontrolable harmonic. Taboas FranciscoI'm a Galician violinist but I've recently began with saw because I find it one of the most beautiful instruments (well, the sound) in the world.
Tay DavidHi! Started playing the musical saw after hearing a lady missionary play at church. Frightened the neighbours. Bought a Charlie Blalock saw and really enjoyed it. Had some difficulty with the high notes as my left hip hurt badly. Devised an angle-iron stand to rest my saw on. No sweat now with highs.
Tran-Caffee DaxI am 20, living in Silicon Valley, CA, and have used the saw as my excuse to get back into music. The sound was intoxicating enough, and the expense cheap enough to get me to start composing simple melodies myself, and give me much more of an appreciation for musical artwork. Since the saw, just two summers ago, I have been inspired to pick up guitar, harmonium, and glass harmonica (if someone were to loan me a cello or accordion to learn, I would be in heaven). I now pl

Walker ChrisI bought a Charlie Blacklock Baritone Saw last October - play in a skiffle group, and managed to 'debut' on saw at Christmas - I'm using the mallet until I can afford a proper bow - if anyone has tips on making a bow I'd be interested to hear from you. Zerkel Tim22 yo Seattle resident. I just got a Charlie Blacklock special for christmas. I'm having some trouble getting any tone with the bow I bought, but I'm still trying. I compose odd dark electronic music and beats and the saw will be a great accompaniment. I learned of the saw from the movie Delicatessen, which is highly reccommended. It is fascinating to see the variety of strange people that play the saw. If you drink beer, does it make you play better?
