I keep a few goodie bags in my car ready to give to homeless folks.  Although most homeless people would prefer a nice cold Ice House (I mean, who wouldn't)... They'll settle for one of these.

How to make a Homeless Goodie Bag
Fill a shoebox or paper bag with any or all of the following:

   Pair of clean socks
   A few disposable razors
sample size deoderant, soaps, shampoo, etc.
   toothbrush / toothpaste
   a couple of candy bars
snacks - chips, peel-top cans, etc.
   wash-n-dries
   bottle of water or juice
   packet of vitamins
   pack of smokes
   some cash
And in Willies case, A bottle of correction fluid :)

Any or all of these items are optional - and I'm sure you can think of a few other things... Basically, these people are camping - so if you could use it on a camp out, they could probably use it, too.

The great thing about giving these Goodie bags to the homeless - is:
Unlike your donation to the United Way, you know 100% will reach the intended recipient.
This is stuff these guys could really use - The money you donate to a charity may go to some program of absolutely no use to these guys.
Tax Deductable - have him give you a receipt for the fair market value.
Personal interaction - you'll get to meet and talk to an element of society you'd never had a chance to.
